I have always planned to be an author but didn’t plan to write my first book on divorce. But the Divine continually leads in mysterious ways, and here I am with a book deal with Revell and a book tentatively titled Courageous Divorce scheduled to release early 2026.
When I started writing this book in 2022, I didn’t envision it for a specifically Christian audience. But as I wrote it, it became apparent that that was exactly who I needed to write it for. Christian women need resources for how to heal and move forward after divorce. They need comfort to know that they are not alone. They need hope that abundance can be ahead. And they need permission: Permission to have the divorce conversation, permission to leave abusive, neglectful, or unhealthy marriages.
And the Christian world at large needs this message: Divorce is sometimes necessary, and we need to create space for the conversation.
Women specifically have often carried the burden of staying in marriages that are abusive or unhealthy. When they leave, they are shamed and judged.
When I started sharing my story on Instagram in 2021, I received messages from women seeking help. Some were going through a divorce and didn’t know how to move forward—financially, physically, spiritually or emotionally. Some were in abusive marriages but felt scared to leave. Some empathized and shared their own stories of divorce and how the church failed to care for or help them, even if they were leaving because of abuse.
The more women I talked with, the more I became convinced that I needed to write this book. And so, I’ve spent the last year writing it, finding an agent, writing a proposal, and finding a publisher.
Yesterday as I was eating lunch, I received this email:
Wow! Someone believes in what I am writing about enough to support me financially. I’ve had a lot of verbal encouragement, but financial encouragement, for both my writing and what I am talking about, is next level.
I’m passionate about getting this book into the world, but sometimes it’s hard. It’s not a fun, feel-good topic. I know the push-back I will get from some Christians. But like this supporter said: Women in the church need to hear that they are valued and that they can choose to walk away from harmful marriages into a life of freedom and health.
That is why I write this book. Women are valuable.
I have never been divorced, but as a child of divorce, who wishes her mother left her father sooner than she did, I can't wait to read your book.
